New and Ongoing Club Business

  • Executive Committee Update: Richard updated members on last months Executive Committee meeting. There were 2 topics discussed at that meeting. One was on the possibility of obtaining liability insurance for the club. After Jim Landry inquired into this and reported to the Committee it was decided to suspend this because of the very high annual cost to the club. It might be revisited in the future. The other topic discussed by the Committee was the relative merits of getting a more advanced camera setup versus getting some tents to provide coverage during events instead of using members’ tents. Jim presented information regarding the tents available to the club. The price range for tents of the size the club is interested in starts at a low of about $250 to a high of about $2500. Jim said the difference in price is reflected in the quality of the tent and that we would probably be getting tents somewhere between $300 to $550. Richard said that more investigation would be done and more data presented to the members to seek approval in the future. The members expressed interest in the more advanced camera setup. Jim Landry said that the camera would be about $600 to $700. The potential benefits were discussed as well as the disadvantages. One major disadvantage presented was the absence of a web master to do the amount of work necessary to make full use of the new camera’s capabilities.
  • Zoo event Update: Richard reported that George Campagna, Jim Landry, Brandon Ginn, Lee Soileaux, Lee Owens, Richard Albrecht, and John Schatzle along with himself were at the event. The weather was not optimal. There was rain off and on throughout the event and members were thankful for the three members’ tents that provided shelter. Unlike the previous year, we only gave out 141 pieces to the participants. In spite of the weather, those participants who were there were enthusiastic and seemed to enjoy the process.
  • LSU Rural Life Museum: Richard announced that Mark Monistere was contacted by LSU for volunteers from among our members to help in making tool totes at the museum which will be on Tuesday June 3rd. It is an LSU summer camp program. Several members volunteered.
  • Club T-shirts: Lee Owens has plenty of T-shirts in various sizes and two colors for sale.
