Meeting Minutes – June 7, 2025

Meeting Location: Rural Life Museum, 4560 Essen Ln, Baton Rouge

  • Collection of dues (Rick Albrecht) and selling of shirts and caps (Lee Owens)

Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance – Harold Choate

Officer Reports:

  • Vice-President – George Campagna: George spoke about going to Geoff Michelli’s shop for next month. He reported that the remaining schedule for the rest of the year had not changed.
  • Secretary – Lee Soileaux: Lee was absent from this meeting.
  • Treasurer – Rick Albrecht: Rick reported general financial information including the club’s bank balance and check flow.
  • Webmaster – Open
  • Community Service – Ken Brown: Ken reported on the O’Brien table project and circulated a list for volunteers for that project. He described the design of the tables and the plans for it. He also reported on a potential project for the Volunteers of America which had not as yet been approved by the Executive Committee. It included two cabinets that are very large and would have to be built in components and assembled on site. Ken is still in communication with Volunteers of America to finalize details for presentation to the executive Committee.
  • Education Outreach – Open

New and Ongoing Club Business

  • Recap on Tent Search: Art Miller proposed a motion that the Executive Committee receive the club’s approval to make the decision of which tent to purchase. The motion was voted on by the members present and approved. The Executive Committee will chose which tent to buy.
  • Rural Life Summer Camp: Mark Monistere, George Campagna, Mick Murphy, Harold Choate, Art Miller, Keith Brian, and Richard Robles participated in helping kids at the Rural Life Summer Camp to assemble Tool Boxes. Mark Monistere and Lee Owens built about 50 kits. This was done last year as well.
  • Lee Owens was selling T-shirts after the meeting. He has a variety of sizes and colors (tan, white, and pink).

Safety Topic: The Safety Topic was related to Bob Chambers’ presentation. It detailed the safe disposal of applicators and rags that have been used with finished. Improper disposal can result in fires.

Skill Topic: Surf Prep/Finishing Techniques – Bob Chambers gave a presentation on how to prepare surfaces before applying finishes and how to apply various finishes.

Show-and-Tell: Members presented items either purchased or built by them that would be of interest to the club members.
