Officer Reports:
- Vice-President – Brandon Ginn reported on the upcoming schedule of club meetings.
- Secretary – Lee Soileaux – reported that there were 16 members attending at the previous month’s meeting and that there were 2 show and tells.
- Treasurer – Rick Albrecht was unable to attend the meeting because of health problems. Richard reported that we have a balance of $3,600. But, we still had to pay for wood for a project and that would probably drop our balance to about $3,000. Harold Choate reported that the arrangement where a member could pick up lumber for a club project from Brazos without having to pay for it at the time of pick up worked well. He also asked about discounts from Brazos woodworking for club projects and for members but Richard said that his did not look likely.
- Webmaster – Open
- Community Service – Ken Brown reported that they continue to work on the O’Brien House project and called on Lee Owens to report on progress. Lee said that they had delivered the table to O’Brien House. Ken asked Mick Murphy how his group was getting along on their table and Mick said they were doing well. Ken then called on Jim Landry to report on his group’s progress with the St. Vincent de Paul pedestal for their statue. Jim said they were still in the design phase because of the complexity of the project. He projected that they would probably complete the project in March. He also introduced the Birdmouth router bit to be used for cutting the panel pieces so that they fit tightly in their octagonal configuration. Ken said that the charities we serve with the various projects we have done have been spreading the word and consequently we are getting more requests for future projects.
- Education Outreach – Open
New and Ongoing Club Business
- Dues are to be turned in by March at which time the membership will be finalized and anyone who has not paid their dues by that time will be removed from the club roll book. They can be reinstated if they subsequently pay dues.
- Marucci Field Trip Discussion – The Baton Rouge and St. Tammany clubs have expressed interest in attending the field trip to the Marucci baseball bat manufacturing company located in Baton Rouge. Richard discussed making the arrangements for scheduling the trip with club members and potential discounts for 25 or more participants. He will send an email to club members to find when would be the best day and time for most members.
- Zoo Event – This will occur in the last weekend in March probably on March 28th which is the Saturday before Easter. He projected a need for donations of tents and volunteers to operate the three stations. Participants will need to get there at about 8:00 in the morning and remain until about 5:00 in the evening. He discussed members either remaining the full time or working in shifts. Shifts would run from 8:00 to 12:00 and 12:00 to 5:00.
- Executive Meeting Notes – Last month’s Executive Meeting discussions and decisions were reported. The purchase of another tent was postponed because it was not anticipated that we would need a second tent any time soon and the one would suffice for now. The speakers that had not been used for some time because of their bulk and weight would probably be used at the Rural Life Museum but the current setup is satisfactory otherwise. The Shop fee to be paid to any member whose shop is used for community service projects was increased from 10% to 20% of the total cost of the project. The Executive Committee also discussed the estimating format to be used in estimating project costs for community service projects to help those charged with estimating come up with estimates that are as accurate as possible.
- Knock Knock Museum – Richard reported that the Knock Knock Museum and other smaller projects were currently being assembled into a photographic record of the various projects that the club has been involved in over the past year so that they can be displayed on the web site.
Members Questions/Concerns – There were no questions/concerns.
Safety Topic – Geoff Michelli discussed the benefits of wearing safety glasses instead of regular prescription eye glasses which cannot provide sufficient protection against eye injury in the shop environment. Protect your eyes.
Skill Topic: New Shop Tour/Tool Demo – Geoff Michelli discussed and displayed his new shop. He gave a rundown of the process from beginning to end. His new shop is quite impressive and well thought out.
