Until then, Richard (Club President) presented an update on Community Service activity. He reported on the VOA project. He submitted a price to the VOA on Friday and is awaiting their authorization to begin the project. As a result of some of the member’s comments at the last meeting, it was decided that Geoff Michelli’s shop will be the central and only focal point at which completed the entire project will be built and assembled. Mick Murphy will be spearheading the project. Jim Landry and his team will begin working on the statue pedestal for St. Vincent DePaul the week after next.
  • Education Outreach – Open

New and Ongoing Club Business

  • St. Tammany Woodworkers Guild Business
  • Swampfest-The Swampfest event will be on October 3rd in Gross Tete. Richard called for volunteers so that an accurate count of participants could be given to the festival organizers who want to give each participating club member a Swamp Fest T-shirt. There will be 4 tables this year and a club member will be going station to station to distribute kits and render assistance as needed. Those parts of the kits requiring nails for assembly will be predrilled this year as it has been found to be more efficient. Richard said that we need an additional 60 kits to be built for the event.
  • Bin Drawing-Richard said that the bin drawing would occur at the end of the meeting and those whose numbers were selected would be able to pick up their bin(s) at that point.

Members Questions/Concerns-There were no Questions/Concerns by members.

Safety Topic-Warren, one of the St. Tammany members, related an incident where he did not wear his safety shield to complete a rip cut and because of his impatience was rewarded with a piece of wood striking his face. Fortunately, he was not severely injured. He advised others to always wear personal protective equipment especially when you may be in a hurry to finish a project.
