Officer Reports:

  • Vice-President – George Campagna- No audio available for this portion
  • Secretary – Harold Choate- No audio available for this portion
  • Treasurer – Rick Albrecht- Contact Rick for details.
  • Webmaster – Geoff Michelli
  • Community Service – Lee Owens- we have 4 teams working on lockers for O’Brien House. Richard Robles, Dale Ragle and Lee Owens built 2 pantries (client name not known). They are almost complete and will be installed soon. HAART has contacted us about building 12 desks and chairs. We will meet with them soon about the details.
  • Education Outreach – Open

New and Ongoing Club Business– Brian Stauss introduced the existence of St. Tammany Woodworkers Guild to the members. He advised STWG had recently discussed the possibility of meeting and collaborating with BRWW. They meet at St. Joseph’s Abbey once a month on Tuesday evening. STWG participates in the Madisonville Boat Show by providing parts for children to build a boat out of a piece of 2 x 6 lumber with other parts that serve as details chosen by the kids. They build 1400 – 1800 of these toy boats in a weekend!

  • FB Site- Richard has been working on revising the website. He has everything done except someone to monitor the Facebook page. This will be an ongoing responsibility and needs someone familiar with Facebook. Discussion of the details took place and resulted in Harold Choate volunteering to take the responsibility. The website will be revised regarding how information is posted to it. Kesh is going to update the projects because we are way behind in posting them.
  • Bird Houses- Richard spoke to our contact about the Swamp Festival. He feels like it will happen this year but can’t confirm it at this time. We will continue to stay in touch till a final decision is made.

Members Questions/Concerns– Richard was asked about our progress in getting Festool to do a presentation on their products for the club. He advised he didn’t think that was a possibility because the company wants them to do a full 8 hour session when they do one. There is a presentation scheduled at Service Lumber Company if anyone is interested in attending it. Guy at PMC is reluctant to schedule one because the lead time for Festool products is ridiculous. He doesn’t want someone to get interested in something and then be unable to get it in this lifetime.

Safety Topic-Lee Soileau gave a short description about how to avoid kickback on a table saw when cutting a short piece off the end of a long board. He suggested using a block clamped to the table saw fence as the reference for the end rather than the fence itself. Once the cut was made the drop could clear the blade without being in a bind and thrown back at the operator.

Skill Topic: Bob Bewick – Bee Boxes

I retired from a career in industrial sales in 2000. One of the first things I did after retiring was to build a raised panel corner desk using oak.
