French Polish Finishing by Bob Chambers. With this topic we’ll explore some of the properties of shellac, how shellac is made, how to use shellac to French polish a workpiece (with demo), what to expect as a result, how to “heal” a shellac finish, and an unconventional way to rub out a shellac finish for a glass smooth finish. You will also learn how to make an applicator for French polishing with common materials, and how to store it for re-use. As a bonus we’ll take a brief look at using dewaxed shellac as a pre-stain conditioner to control blotching.
